Not My Fault! Is it?
I just got an e-mail from Steve Marr (Daily Business Proverbs):
Have you ever told your boss you did your best, and a problem is not your fault?

How often we make great excuses. As the scripture states, however, we must act and follow through.
Often, we believe a bad result plus a good explanation equals a good result. Clearly, this is faulty math.
Next time we have fallen short on the job, don't try to vindicate yourself with excuses. Simply accept the criticism. Apologize. Then insure you correct the problem.
In the future, accept no excuse, and vow to remove any roadblock necessary for success. Don't wait for someone else to follow through for you.
As you take responsibility, and act each day, in every circumstance, your boss will give you more responsibility, promotions, and better salary increases.
I know that I have been in this situation many times before and thought to myself, “I did my best so you can be mad at me” instead of owning the problem and not taking responsibility for the outcome. I pray that I can use this knowledge and make a change in my life so that WHEN these problems come up I will be able to make the right choices. What do you think? Leave a comment or e-mail me at helpdesk@waterhousecomps.com, hope you have a great day!
