Technology vs. Hard Econmic times

Everyone should know by now that our economy is in bad shape...The thing that I have been struggling with is, "What technology or service do I have that can be cut back?" When I look around I see several different connections to the internet in my world, Why? Is it for convenience? Can I cut back and still get things accomplished...Being a computer tech, I live on the internet. Between social networks (Facebook and Twitter), web design/maintainance, and client servers, where do I need to draw the line. Have you cut back on anything? What are your thoughts?

I installed a beta version of the new SkyFire browser http://www.skyfire.com on my HTC Mogul last week after getting a text message awarding me the opportunity to be a beta tester for their product. I was very excited to say the least, I had been watching this company since I had heard about them from the TWIT podcast http://www.twit.tv And jumped in by giving the info needed to beta test. Since the install I have been very impressed with the functionallity, presentation, and ease of use. So far I can get to just about everything, webmail, youtube, banking sites, blogs (including mine), plays videos, and anything else I can get to. My Dad tested it in an AJAX environment and it worked perfectly. I've only seen a few hiccups in getting to things but all in all this is definitely a browser worth waiting for!

John the Baptist would never get hired today. No church would touch him. He was a public relations disaster. He "wore clothes made from camel's hair, had a leather belt around his waist, and ate locusts and wild honey" (Mar_1:6). Who would want to look at a guy like that every Sunday?
His message was as rough as his dress: a no-nonsense, bare-fisted challenge to repent because God was on his way.
John the Baptist set himself apart for one task, to be a voice of Christ. Everything about John centered on his purpose. His dress. His diet. His actions. His demands.
You don't have to be like the world to have an impact on the world. You don't have to be like the crowd to change the crowd. You don't have to lower yourself down to their level to lift them up to your level. Holiness doesn't seek to be odd. Holiness seeks to be like God.

A Cleared Calendar

How long has it been since you let God have you?
I mean really have you? How long since you gave him a portion of undiluted, uninterrupted time listening for his voice? Apparently, Jesus did. He made a deliberate effort to spend time with God.
Spend much time reading about the listening life of Jesus and a distinct pattern emerges. He spent regular time with God, praying and listening. Mark says, "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed" (Mar_1:35 NIV)
Let me ask the obvious. If Jesus, the Son of God, the sinless Savior of humankind, thought it worthwhile to clear his calendar to pray, wouldn't we be wise to do the same?

How often we make great excuses. As the scripture states, however, we must act and follow through.
Often, we believe a bad result plus a good explanation equals a good result. Clearly, this is faulty math.
Next time we have fallen short on the job, don't try to vindicate yourself with excuses. Simply accept the criticism. Apologize. Then insure you correct the problem.
In the future, accept no excuse, and vow to remove any roadblock necessary for success. Don't wait for someone else to follow through for you.
As you take responsibility, and act each day, in every circumstance, your boss will give you more responsibility, promotions, and better salary increases.

I know that I have been in this situation many times before and thought to myself, “I did my best so you can be mad at me” instead of owning the problem and not taking responsibility for the outcome. I pray that I can use this knowledge and make a change in my life so that WHEN these problems come up I will be able to make the right choices. What do you think? Blackberry Sucks!

I have been working on a solution for a client that runs the blackberry desktop manager to sync to outlook. The old versions won't uninstall because Blackberry deletes the installer info after it installs! Really makes it hard to update and use the new software, talk about shooting yourself in the foot!

I found this online today and thought that this is ridiculous it is that people claim to know what they are doing when it comes to working on computers. Being in the computer field knowing how easy it is to get away with some of this but, come on! We are entrusted with all this data and people need to know the dangers of letting the wrong person have access to anything they want. It is really frustrating to know that these guys are out there doing who knows what to the machines that they get their hands on. Being one tech in a vast expanse of people claiming to "know what we are doing" when it comes to computers, I can just try build a reputation of being one that "knows what I am doing" and hopefully showing that it can be done with integrity. When I saw this I really got upset that these guys are taking advantage of the people that trusted them.

When you make a mistake, do you cover up with your staff?

The Lord taught "...Do not bear false witness..." (Luke 18:20, NASB).

As a boss, when you make a mistake, you may want to not confess to your staff.

However, they always know.

Instead, when you are wrong, admit it and apologize if necessary.

When you admit your faults, staff will rally around you to overcome the obstacle, and will be more receptive to correction from you in the future.

Your esteem will increase with staff with your honesty.

Be truthful with staff, and your leadership will grow.

I am trying this post from my phone, headin' back home. We just finished with a wedding reception in Fayetteville at a place called the North Forty (http://www.north40.biz/). It rained all night, and we were outside trying to DJ in the muggy, wet, steamy, Arkansas September Night, but the Bride and Groom kept a positive spirit about the whole thing and were great. Everyone had a good time (I think) at least Mark and I did. Well we are just about to the shop...I post more later.
